First #4 cut Clare's legs off. Then she was playing a "game" with them. The rules of the game were that she was going to fight at a low level with the boy, and from time to time she would go up a level, till she would eventually kill the boy. Before the boy would die, Clare would had to re-attach her legs by coming closer to her limit. And as you already know, Clare could go over her limit and "awaken" without changing form. She did that when the awakened monster attacked, so that her legs healed in a second, then she ran off into the first, with her legs and the boy, while the #4 was stuck fighting the awakened. Ergo, the answer is: She healed herself fast by awakening before she even fought #4. Remember that #4 was holding her before she even had killed the awakened and Clare and the boy had gone separate ways.
